September Newsletter

October 5, 2027

In the Secwepemc Calendar, October is a month focused on preparing for winter: hunting and drying meat, tanning buckskin, stocking the cache pits. The bears enter their dens. Many families mirror this tradition and are filling their freezers, putting their gardens to bed and getting wood into the woodshed. The plants are done their growing and are preparing for a winter of rest.

Looking Back: September was a busy month!

Terry Fox Run

We raised $1200 for Cancer Research with the Terry Fox Run! It poured, but the rain couldn't dampen our spirits. Thank you to the parents who were able to come the rescue with dry clothes!

Orange Shirt Day with Phyllis Webstad

We were honoured to have the founder of the Orange Shirt Society be our special guest speaker for our Orange Shirt Day event. Students from the entire South End attended Ecole 100 Mile to learn about and engage in Indigenous Culture, from Metis weaving, trapping and even Spirit Carver Dean who demonstrated Chainsaw Carving. I was in awe to see the resilience of Indigenous culture and was reminded about the importance of making schools a safe place for all students to learn, grow and be proud of who they are.

Looking Ahead:

October Calendar

Pancake Breakfast: 8:00 - 9:00 Parents are welcome too :)

Hot Lunch: Starts this week. Lunches are ordered for the whole month so if you missed this one, be on the lookout during the last week of October for November's ordering.

Fundraising: Some classes have started fundraising for year-end field trips. Ms. Loewen's class is collecting recycling around the school and Ms. Fatima will be selling pizza. PAC also has leftover hotdogs from Orange Shirt Day and will be selling those soon. We'll use the MunchaLunch system to order Pizza and Hotdogs, so be on the lookout for that in your email over the next few weeks.

Weather: The weather is turning, but it won't deter us from taking our learning outdoors. Please ensure to send your child with appropriate clothing for the weather, including a change of clothes and socks.

That will bring us to November!

Take Care and thank you for your continued support.
